Let’s have a vacation!

As the vacation period approaches, we would like to give you some tips on how to make the most of your summer vacation. At Aluflexpack, in line with our values, we emphatically listen and support the necessary time off as well as encourage all our employees to prioritize their wellbeing during their summer vacations. We want to provide you with a guide, or tips & tricks as we call it, on how to enjoy your time off.

Did you know that research shows that health and wellbeing can significantly decline in the last week before a holiday due to increased workloads? Additionally, physical challenges within the first few days of vacation are common, a phenomenon known as ‘transitory stress’ or ‘leisure sickness.’ This can manifest as poor sleep quality, a cold, or a general bad mood, often caused by a sudden withdrawal of cortisol (the stress hormone). This means the body struggles to adjust from stress to relaxation abruptly. We’ve put together some suggestions to help you ease into your vacation and enjoy the experience to the fullest extent.

1. Plan Ahead

Before you head off, set clear boundaries. Let your team and colleagues know when you’ll be away, delegate responsibilities, and set up an out-of-office email response if applicable. Make sure to communicate your availability and any critical deadlines before you leave. This proactive approach will help ensure a smooth transition and allow you to fully disconnect from work, paving the way for a more refreshing and productive return.

2. Digital Time Off

To fully benefit from your vacation, disconnect from work-related digital distractions as much as possible. Limit screen time and set specific times to check your phone or emails if necessary. This will help you focus on your surroundings and recharge effectively. This allows you to invest your time elsewhere, such as engaging in novel experiences. These new activities help form new neural connections, enhancing memory and cognitive flexibility.

3. Find your Balance

We understand how overloaded and overwhelmed work can make us feel. To maintain our position as the most integrated success maker, workdays can be challenging. Stay hydrated and find a balance between enjoying food and drinks and maintaining a healthy lifestyle so your body gets a chance to relax too. Light physical activities, such as walking, swimming, or gentle hiking, can also boost your emotional resilience, making you better equipped to handle future work-related challenges. However, pay attention to your body’s signals and respond accordingly. If you’re feeling tired, take a break. If you’re feeling stressed, find a quiet spot to relax.

4. Sleep Vacation

Quality sleep is essential for a restful vacation. Ensure you get enough rest and listen to the needs of your body. If you are experiencing a stressful period, sleep is crucial for healing and recovery. While some may argue that sleeping is a waste of time, it is one of the most beneficial activities for your health as it improves mood, cognitive function, and physical health, making you more productive and happier in the long run.

5. Enjoy the moment

The most important thing to keep in mind before going on your vacation is to avoid overthinking and having regrets. We tend to plan our vacation days meticulously, and if something changes along the way, it can lead to disappointment. Instead, embrace flexibility and go with the flow. Do what makes you happy at the moment, whether it’s spending time with loved ones or taking some time for yourself lying on the couch. Remember, there is no right or wrong way to enjoy your vacation. The best vacation is one where you feel fulfilled and relaxed, regardless of how your plans may change.

6. Welcome Back

Upon your return, give yourself a few days to gradually catch up on emails and updates. Start by focusing on tasks that need immediate attention rather than trying to address everything at once. Remember, transitioning back from vacation is a process, so taking regular breaks can help you ease back into your routine smoothly and maintain steady progress.

At Aluflexpack, we are committed to your wellbeing. Following our suggestions, enjoying free time, great weather, and relaxed pace, you will definitely return from your summer vacation feeling truly recharged.

Bon Voyage on your vacation journey!
